What is Lean enterprise ?

This is the process of relentlessly eliminating waste, identifying customer value and delivering this value in the fastest and smoothest way. It incorporates all activities in all sectors, whether providing a service or product in both private and public sectors.
Lean Enterprise covers the flow of information, the manipulation of data, the physical flow of material, the provision of service and indeed the entire flow through any organisation or system.
Every process can be categorised into one of three customer related conditions; value adding, non-value adding (waste) or necessary non-value adding. By identifying the mix of these three conditions, it is possible to reduce and eliminate the waste thus enabling an enterprise to be considered “Lean”

Xybella's lean process involves three stages:-

Stage 1 Lean value assessment

This involves creating process overview diagrams by mapping physical & information flow. The next step is to identify the value type in each process. Having identified where your value is or is not, it is a case of identifying projects and setting priorities to provide the largest benefits.

Stage 2 Process improvement

This stage is vitally important, as it is the key to a successful implementation of “Lean”.
Waste elimination includes walking through processes, identifying waste, defining the category of waste (overproduction, inventory, transportation, waiting, motion, over-processing, correction, not utilising the talent and knowledge of human resources) and finally removing it.

A useful tool for waste removal is the “5S” housekeeping system based on the following keywords :-

Sort, Straighten, Sweep, System, Sustain

Flow optimisation involves removing the barriers of maximum throughput by providing the smoothest process flow. It is a recursive procedure requiring a tenacious approach because as soon as one bottleneck is removed, another appears.
Developing standard operating procedures provides a guaranteed method of ensuring continued maximum flow.

Stage 3 Continuous improvement

By introducing Lean Enterprise, the effect creates an unstoppable, self-generating, movement towards an improvement culture.
